A Little Bit of Reminiscing
I so luuurve LoTR. Yes, I still do. With the onslaught [hehe, Shari&Steph, onslaught!] of that popularly notorious & emerging “literary genre” chick-lit, going back to the classics like The Lord of the Rings is such a breath of fresh air.
[Btw, I heard there's also an emerging literary genre for our male counterparts, and it's called d*ck-lit. Like chick-lit, authors of d*ck-lit do nothing but b*tch around about their "maleness". *groan*]
Here’s a cute one from Foxtrot. I share the little guy’s feelings:
Ate Andi bought me an Extended Edition DVD for The Two Towers. Unfortunately, while they were still there, The Return of the King Extended Edition DVD won’t be out ’til December 14. My dad and my sis went home a few days before Dec.14. Darn. I bet the RoTK EE DVD won’t be out here ’til January. You know the Philippines. We’re always one of the last ones to get those cool stuff shipped to our shores.
By the way, The Magnificat‘s finally out, after an excruciatingly looong 50,000,000 years. I hate to bash my own paper & own club.. But I just couldn’t flip through the pages. It lacks content; we weren’t able to make that “booming issue”, just like what we planned last summer. It’s saddening, really.
But I guess we should just blame ourselves.
It’s almost 2AM right now, and I could not sleep. My head is buzzing around with tons of layout ideas for IV-1′s class website. I’ve sketched the layout aeons ago, and at last!–I have all the time in the world to make this “dream layout” into reality. I shall create a website just like I did back in the “glorious days” of my web career [web career??]. The new IV-1 website shall equal the magnitude [if not surpass it altogether] of my 282k3.rocks.it. Haha, happy days are here again! Booyaka!
A friend once told me: “You keep on slaving away on those class sites of yours, while what do all of your classmates do? They play online games. They YM. They do Friendster. And what are you doing? You’re straining your poor eyes, you’re spending your internet access FTP-ing all those heavy-laden files to your website. And you don’t even have DSL; you’ve only got a 28.8kbps sucky, dial-up modem. And you’re doing this all by yourself. Don’t you think it’s a tad bit unfair for you?”
I agreed with that friend of mine, but later on, I abandoned that belief. As long as the people become happy with viewing my sites, as long as they keep on tagging, and giving out feedback, as long as they keep on praising your work, or your layouts.. I think that would be the incentive. Nothing else could make a webmaster happier; all we need is traffic, and feedback. Did I mention that I used to own a Final Fantasy VIII website? I built from scratch back in 7th grade. The website grew, it became popular among the FF8 fantic netizens, but eventually, my server host at that time, Liquid2k.com, collapsed. My 2 years’ labor of love was erased from the face of the Internet forever.
But that wasn’t true, as it seems.
Recently, I did a Google search on my old webby, and I found something else.
People from all over the world have been posting stuff on RPG forums and messageboards praising my work. They say stuff like, “Hey! Check out this cool site!” or, “This FF8 site’s got everything!!!”, and, “check out this site! it’s got unique features! FF8 RINGTONES?? yeah!”. A bunch of strangers have also linked to that old site of mine.
That, my friends, is the joy of site-making. You get to share your knowledge to the world. The best part of it is getting feedback. Knowing that you’ve made a slight difference in other people’s web-surfing habits is probably one of the best incentive a webmaster could ever get.
By the way, my old FF8 website’s URL is [or rather, WAS]: http://finf8.somewhere.net.
Ah.. I miss my 1997-2002 days… *sigh*
Merry Christmas, guys!!!
