September 20, 2005: THE CAR ACCIDENT
Oooh, I bet that got your attention!
Well, yeah, in a nutshell [hehe, Miss Windsor?], I got into a vehicular accident that Tuesday night. A taxicab hit me–I was going straight along Pedro Gil while the damn cab was getting out of Robinson’s Place Manila’s Pedro Gil Exit. It was raining [at nighttime, mind you! :O], my two phones were dead, the car I was driving [the black one] wasn’t mine [nor was it my Dad's--it's a company car, damn...], and I just came from a very, very bad Math17 4th Departmental Exam. It was a hell day [and totally a hell night], yeah. Good thing my blockmates were riding with me: Fresan, Vivian, and Jolo. If I got hit by that taxi all by myself, with no cellphone, and nobody to help me… I’d be damned for sure. [To my pasaheros: thanks so much guys... And I'm so sorry for whatever trauma/anxiety/stress I've given you. It won't happen again because... I don't see myself driving anymore ever!!!]
After spewing many an expletive at the taxi driver [and at practically anyone within earshot], I pulled out my wallet and demanded that we exchange driver’s licenses. The damn driver refused. Traffic was gradually slowing down around our area. I borrowed Fresan’s phone and we switched sim cards… Vivian called 117, Fresan sat in the car, and I argued with the cabbie with Jolo standing guard nearby…
The cabbie was trying to “negotiate” and I was getting more and more pissed off.117 wasn’t responding [they were "quite" busy since they think that a lot of other vehicular accidents that happened that night], so I called my parents. My parents said they were coming, and told us to just wait for 117′s response.
More minutes passed, and still, no sign of the traffic bureau’s response team. The cabbie was getting on my nerves. The rain was getting on my nerves. My stupid mistake of getting hit by a taxi was getting on my nerves… I felt sorry for dragging along my friends into this mess.
Then they pointed out a police patrol vehicle that stopped by the fishball vendors, just right across the street. I approached them and asked if they were the response team that was sent by the traffic buraeu [but duh, I knw that they weren't, but I just had to ask that so they could help us]. Thankfully, even if they weren’t the response team, the police officers tried helping us. From the very start, they were already taking sides, and luckily, they took ours. They took a look at our licenses and after seeing the cabbie’s two receipts [that I guess served as his temp license], I found out that he already had a previous vehicular accident and that he had, in fact, not his license, but a traffic violation ticket. Only later on in the traffic bureau would I find out that the ticket the damn cabbie had with him wasn’t supposed to serve as a temporary driver’s license… So basically what happened is that the cabbie committed the “driving without a license” offense.
My parents and my sister arrived. My sister got us [Fresan, Vivian, Jolo, and Me] and we went to KFC. She also dropped Fresan and Jolo to their respective [and usual] “drop-off spots”, and brought Vivian to her house [she lived near our house]. I went with my parents to the traffic bureau and filed a police report. After discovering that the driver would face more charges if we pushed through with our case/thing, Dad decided to just ignore the whole thing….
I was really really sorry for that big blunder… I actually still am.
As I speak, the car is in some repair shop in Marikina. Hopefully the large dent would be hammered out by Monday. As for me, I guess I’ll stay away from the driver’s seat for a while. It was good that nobody got harmed during the acident but the thing is, I’ve been too much of a reckless driver recently, so I guess that accident was some sort of a wake-up call..
The next day… Ironically, my Mom made me drive her around. Haha!
To be continued…
