The fall semester’s looking a bit heavy from what I can see right now, so I’ve decided to take Research in the summer. It starts, oh, tomorrow evening. An evening class. Once a week. In the summer. Greeeeat. I’m taking Patho as well, since I do have to retake it anyway. I really want to raise my GPA, so I’m trying out some new ways to get things done. We’ll see.

For the past few days, after going back and forth from HM to the BEACH!!!, I spent most of my time catching up on about a year’s worth of missed television. I finished watching the epic yet shortlived Sci-Fi series called Firefly [it lasted up to only 14 episodes before Big Bad Fox cancelled it], its spinoff big-screen bonus called Serenity, the infectious and totally entertaining Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, and the first season of Castle. The common denominator in all of these is actor Nathan Fillion. That actor is just brilliant. Aside from the fact that he’s the first Nathan I’ve ever known who isn’t an asshole [enter snickers and lols here], the guy’s just really really good. And hi-larious.

Also, last night, I finally saw the unofficial LOTR fan-made film, “The Hunt for Gollum”. It’s surprisingly very good. For a fan-made film, it’s AMAZING. It looks just like the ones New Line made. The fans based it off the stuff from the appendices, when Aragorn and Gandalf looked for Gollum. It happens before the Fellowship of the Ring. They only spent $4000 on it & nobody got paid. It’s made by fans, after all. It’s only about 40 minutes. Click here to see it.

As my friend pointed out, “The Hunt for Gollum” isn’t entirely accurate, but the general plot sticks to what happened [according to what Gandalf told the Hobbits in RoTK and the stuff I've looked at on the appendices, History of Middle-earth & The Unfinished Tales].

This whole thing now makes me think of the future of film. First off, we’ve witnessed the huge success of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog as a purely web-distributed work. The continued success of films for the web may perhaps open up to a brand new business model for distributors and filmmakers alike. I know that this isn’t a new thing, especially with the rising popularity of the indie film scene, but mainstream cinema is dying… would people now turn to the Internet?

Anyway, enough rambling for now. So go and watch it!

So I was washing my face and brushing my teeth last night at about 1:00 AM, and as I was rinsing off the toothpaste, I noticed that the water suddenly started forming ice at the bottom of the sink. So yeah. It was so cold that water from the faucet starts freezing. Damn.

Sorry for the lack of updates. Ever since I came to this bloodyfriggin’ program, I had no time for anything else. Sort of frozen, like this sink water. I had to give up a lot of things and people–blogging included. I did, however, continue to update my microblogging outlets such as my Facebook status, twitter, and the latest one, plurk.

I did find blessing in this bloodyfriggin’ program, however. I met people who I greatly respect and met about two who I consider kindred spirits.

I’ll write a proper blog entry next time. For now, I hope you’ll be content in knowing that yes, I am still alive. I may have given up writing [for now], but know that this blog is always around for your entertainment and mine. Also, if you haven’t done so yet, you may want to check out the archives and find a couple of my more entertaining/angsty entries from a couple of years back.

“Can I see your ID, please?” she asked. She was a pleasant looking woman, perhaps in her early forties, blond, tanned, yet very very white. She smiled a bespectacled smile, the type of smile that you get from people who wear glasses.

For what?, I thought. I didn’t know they did a Victoria’s Secret on here, asking for IDs when paying via credit card. But wait, I’m not even paying yet, how could she–?

I gave her my What The Hell Are You Talking About look.

“For the beer,” replied the Wise Bespectacled One, as if reading my thoughts. She got Dad’s case of beer from the bottom of the shopping cart and slumped it down on her little counter.

“Ohhh!” I lamely said. “Well,” I began as I waved towards my mother nearby. “She’s paying for these.”

I forced my credit card back in my wallet. I gave her my Stupid Smile.

She nodded and began the check-out process.

I could have told her that I’m turning 21 tomorrow, that I could buy all the beer that I want, and perhaps, even more. Of course, I knew better than to complicate things, and so I kept quiet. The fact that my driver’s license still has that ugly yellow “BELOW 21″ band doesn’t help, either [I renewed my license yesterday, and I wasn't 21 at that time anyway].

Ha. Turning 21.

It still didn’t sink in yet, I think. Or maybe it probably did–I’m really not too sure. 21 is really a bigger deal than 18, I think, because of two reasons:

1. Being twentynothingsomething.
2. Getting kicked out of dependent status for my Dad’s visa. [More on this next time... this is supposed to be another blog entry & explanation.]

I was looking around the girls in my classes, and one thing I also noticed was that absolutely ALL of them have the unmistakable wedding band on their left ring fingers! They’re all married! Yes, a couple of them are older, but a lot of them are still pretty much my age [20 or 21].

Then it just sinks in. It’s like I should act like a fucking grown-up because everyone around me is. The truth is, I’m just a 14 year-old girl at heart: embracing singleness, playing games, leeching off my parents’ money, being a jobless bum and all that…

Ugh, I’ll be 21 tomorrow. I’m scared shitless. Not that it matters, since I’m pretty much 21 right now anyway. Why do numbers have to dictate how we act, how we should do things–basically our lives?

Fuck growing up.

I hope I have a happy birthday tomorrow because tomorrow is the start of the Rest of My Life.

Also, I just got hold of The Fratellis‘ new album called Here We Stand. I haven’t listened to it properly yet, but I do have to say that I like their first one, Costello Music better. We’ll see.

And damn, they’re in New York right now! So near yet so far away!

I also just realized that Franz Ferdinand played at Duke University last April 2006, back when I was in the Philippines, taking a vacation. Talk about irony! Now Franz won’t be back in the US in a long time [not until they release a new album, at least].

Okay, I guess I bored everyone with the FF and TF talk. Sorry, I forgot nobody here digs the same music as I do. Boo.

I’ve been having these quarter-life crisis conversations with friends, lately. Most of you are graduating later this year [congrats, guys!] and for my case, I just had a change of career paths. Medicine is still my end goal, but as Julie said, that’s going to take up such a long long time. I really admire Rio and Ria. They’re the strongest, most dedicated, most focused, and hardworking people I have ever met. For those who aren’t sure about medicine, though, here are some inspirational videos.
