I probably shouldn’t have watched that movie this past Friday, but whatever. I probably shouldn’t have watched my missed Castle episode, either. But then again, at least I had some semblance of “fun” for the week. I need my lost 3 1/2 hours for some more study time, though. Two back-to-back 12-hour clinicals, 2 big exams on the same day, 2 self-reflections due the same night, and a boatload of crap to finish this week.Two by two, hands of blue? “FML” doesn’t fit in here.

I’ll quote Kate Beckett, instead: “I have no life.”

PS: This isn’t a real blog entry, I know. I was supposed to post this on Facebook, but it was too long for a status message… and I had to vent this out somewhere… hence the utilization of this dear old blog of mine.

The fall semester’s looking a bit heavy from what I can see right now, so I’ve decided to take Research in the summer. It starts, oh, tomorrow evening. An evening class. Once a week. In the summer. Greeeeat. I’m taking Patho as well, since I do have to retake it anyway. I really want to raise my GPA, so I’m trying out some new ways to get things done. We’ll see.

For the past few days, after going back and forth from HM to the BEACH!!!, I spent most of my time catching up on about a year’s worth of missed television. I finished watching the epic yet shortlived Sci-Fi series called Firefly [it lasted up to only 14 episodes before Big Bad Fox cancelled it], its spinoff big-screen bonus called Serenity, the infectious and totally entertaining Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, and the first season of Castle. The common denominator in all of these is actor Nathan Fillion. That actor is just brilliant. Aside from the fact that he’s the first Nathan I’ve ever known who isn’t an asshole [enter snickers and lols here], the guy’s just really really good. And hi-larious.

Also, last night, I finally saw the unofficial LOTR fan-made film, “The Hunt for Gollum”. It’s surprisingly very good. For a fan-made film, it’s AMAZING. It looks just like the ones New Line made. The fans based it off the stuff from the appendices, when Aragorn and Gandalf looked for Gollum. It happens before the Fellowship of the Ring. They only spent $4000 on it & nobody got paid. It’s made by fans, after all. It’s only about 40 minutes. Click here to see it.

As my friend pointed out, “The Hunt for Gollum” isn’t entirely accurate, but the general plot sticks to what happened [according to what Gandalf told the Hobbits in RoTK and the stuff I've looked at on the appendices, History of Middle-earth & The Unfinished Tales].

This whole thing now makes me think of the future of film. First off, we’ve witnessed the huge success of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog as a purely web-distributed work. The continued success of films for the web may perhaps open up to a brand new business model for distributors and filmmakers alike. I know that this isn’t a new thing, especially with the rising popularity of the indie film scene, but mainstream cinema is dying… would people now turn to the Internet?

Anyway, enough rambling for now. So go and watch it!

I watch Family Guy myself, and I know that everything’s done all in good fun–heck, I bet they even have Filipinos on board–but still…

I think it’s best to just sit back and watch what happens next [no pun intended].

American Idol has often been criticized for its contest rules, specifically, for its method of selecting the contest winner. The method of popular vote is one of the reasons that have made the show a big hit among people all over the world. However, this same method has posed a critical issue, and has raised many questions: How would the viewers know which contestant is truly “talented”? What does “talent” mean for the viewers? Isn’t this just a popularity contest? What would happen if people would vote for the worst contestant?

The last question is what votefortheworst.com addresses. Part-mockery, part-social experiment, and part-American Idol bashing, votefortheworst.com is telling everyone how “idols” are not made overnight and how gullible American Idol‘s viewers have become. By making the worst contestant win the contest, this website hopes that people would see the flaws of the contest: how just because a person won the title, “American Idol” does not automatically mean that he or she is truly one.

Whatever happened to the musicians and artists who started off by making their own music, writing their own songs, and creating their own styles? American Idol has changed all that, and has created manufactured, put-together, “artists,” nay, “idols” who are fortunate enough to have an instant audience–moneymaking through music and television at its finest.

Votefortheworst.com puts a spin in all that. And even if they don’t, it’s fun to make a mockery out of American Idol‘s “artists-in-a-box” anyway. Either way, FOX and Simon Cowell still earn money, the TV show and votefortheworst.com get lots of attention, and the people have a lot to talk about. Everybody wins.

PS: Too bad Sanjaya got kicked out of the game. Oh well. Sanjaya’s not the only sucky contestant anyway–all of these contestants suck. As I have said, everybody wins!

School has been fun, and I’ve made more new friends now. [Friendly peeps @Psych and a H-O-T guy who started sitting beside me and trying to talk to me @Math class--> what more could I ask for? XD]

Ironically, I’m doing really well at Chemistry [my fear], while starting to feel the wrath of Math [omg, a rhyme!]. XD I guess it’s because I’ve been too overconfident, and yeah, I’ve ignored Math.

In other news, Eoin Colfer‘s latest installment in the Artemis Fowl series has just been released last Sept.12 in the US. I’ve been getting good feedback about this new book, Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony from the guys at Amazon.com and fellow fans at the best Artemis Fowl Fansite on the web [Google bomb! *lol*].

Unfortunately, I don’t know when I could get myself a copy. It’s pretty cheap online, though. Amazon offers it at only $10.17, a great deal with regular prices starting at $16.95.

I’d like to know, though, if TLC has been released in the Philippines… I would assume that they would get the British cover [which is waaaay cooler] and have a lower price [all books are cheaper there]. So there. Major shout outs to fellow Fowl fans, Teddy and Micah! Is it released there yet?

Oh, and I just saw tonight’s Survivor: Cook Islands season premiere. It’s pretty much a controversial season, I guess, because producer Mark Burnett and his guys have resorted to segregation in

He was one of those people that you would never expect to die, mainly because being “The Crocodile Hunter” is his job, and because you just don’t think he actually would. I loved watching his TV shows: I remember when I was back in 7th grade, I was sitting behind a group of Australian delegates in this international conference, and I was getting a kick out of imitating doing a Steve Irwin impression for my seatmate. Them Aussie girls turned to look at me weird. 

Steve Irwin died while filming off the Great Barrier Reef. During the shooting, a stingray’s barb went straight to his chest, and pierced a hole into his heart.

Such a poetic way to die. But he died happy.

Sometimes, I just think, what if I die later? Tomorrow? Next year? Would I be ready? And could I rightly say that I died HAPPY?

That’s just really something to think about. For now: Rest in Peace, Steve Irwin, Crocodile Hunter.

Life is precious. And life is full of surprises–and that’s another blog entry.

It all started with Natalie Portman’s Gangsta Rapper video. I found it real funny at first… but gradually it just became so “blah”. And oh, the part where Samberg comes out as a Viking.. it doesn’t help. At all.
